              Inaugural Convocation
              The inaugural convocation ceremony marking the opening of Singapore Management University and the beginning of the academic year. Ceremonies were held on 29 July 2000 at Bras Basah Park, the site of the university’s future city campus.                   TCS-SMU iCIty-Lab inauguration on 5 August 2011
                  Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services, business solutions and consulting firm, and the Singapore Management University (SMU) announced on 5 August 2011 the establishment of the TCS-SMU iCity Lab to be located at SMU. The collaboration agreement signed today states the two organizations are partnering to create a new research facility to develop industry standards and IT frameworks for the emerging intelligent city (“iCity”) model of urban development. The launch event was graced by Guest-of-honour Ms Indranee Rajah, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Law and Education, who delivered an Opening Address at the launch event.                       SMU strengthens career readiness with co-curricular transcript and lifelong career support
                      At the SMU Co-Curricular Symposium 2025, Professor Alan Chan, SMU Provost (left), and Education Minister Chan Chun Sing (right) celebrated SMU's dedication to providing transformative education through impactful co-curricular learning. The event marked a historic milestone with the announcement that the 2025 graduates will be the first cohort to receive SMU’s Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT), a pioneering initiative in Singapore that formally documents students' co-curricular achievements and skills developed. Additionally, all SMU degree holders will have access to Lifelong Career Support, including career coaching, networking opportunities, and job placement resources from the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC), ensuring career resilience beyond graduation.

                        At the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC) Annual General Meeting Luncheon held on 27 June 2025, SMU President Professor Lily Kong moderated a wide-ranging dialogue with the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Ong Ye Kung, Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health. Set against a backdrop of global uncertainty, demographic shifts, and growing socio-economic pressures, the conversation examined some of the most pressing issues shaping Singapore’s future—including workforce resilience, population ageing, geopolitical developments, and the national imperative for lifelong learning. The luncheon brought together senior leaders from across government, business, and the non-profit sector. In her opening remarks, Professor Kong highlighted the timeliness of the dialogue, underscoring the need for societies to adapt and thrive amid an increasingly complex and rapidly changing global landscape.

                            Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, graced the launch of the Resilient Workforces Institute (ResWORK) in Singapore Management University as Guest-of-Honour. In his remarks, Dr Janil highlighted the importance of partnerships with industry, enabled by research, in overcoming workforce disruptions brought about by artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies.
