Founded in 2000, the Singapore Management University Students’ Association (SMUSA) is a student-run student government body that represents the collective voice of SMU undergraduates. Serving as a bridge between students and School Offices, SMUSA advocates for students’ rights, engages stakeholders to build stronger relationships, and works to enrich campus life by fostering a holistic culture and developing quality student leaders, while continuously strengthening its internal operations through structural and procedural excellence.

- At Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Patron’s Day on 30 January 2026, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, accompanied by SMU Chairman Piyush Gupta, visited the SMU Makers showcase at Campus Green. The photo featured him interacting with alumnus Mr Ryan Ong, a graduate of the Lee Kong Chian School of Business (Class of 2019) and co-founder of Fogo Fungi. A highlight of Patron’s Day, SMU Makers is a curated marketplace that celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of the SMU community. The 2026 edition featured 28 student, alumni, and staff entrepreneurs, each showcasing products and ideas inspired by their passions and experiences. From handcrafted goods and lifestyle products to innovative food concepts and edible treats, the marketplace demonstrated how a single spark of imagination can grow into meaningful creations and businesses. Through SMU Makers, Patron’s Day provides a platform for entrepreneurs within the SMU community to share their stories, connect with visitors, and showcase the diverse talents that contribute to the university’s vibrant and innovative culture.

- A hallmark of SMU since its incorporation in 2000, Patron’s Day celebrates the University’s founding and honours the Presidents who have served as its Patrons, from President S R Nathan to the current Patron, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. The 2026 theme, “A-Z: Infinite Possibilities,” reflected the idea that just as 26 letters can be combined to create limitless expressions, the diverse SMU community continues to generate new ideas, meaningful connections, and lasting impact. One of the highlights of Patron’s Day 2026 was the visit of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, attending the event as SMU’s Patron. During his tour of the festivities, he visited the SMU Makers showcase, interacted with student organisers, and witnessed the final rounds of the Inter-Faculty Tug-of-War, underscoring the event’s role in bringing together student leadership, institutional stewardship, and community participation. - At SMU Patron’s Day 2026, SMU Maker Ms Kathlynn Ho, a Year 1 undergraduate from the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, engaging a guest at her booth. Inspired by her love for crafting and a desire to bring joy to others, she co-founded a small business with a fellow cat enthusiast, creating and selling handmade accessories and merchandise. A highlight of Singapore Management University’s annual Patron’s Day, the SMU Makers showcase is a curated marketplace featuring entrepreneurial students, alumni, and staff. This year’s showcase brought together 28 makers across 26 booths, presenting an eclectic mix of crafts, fashion, food, lifestyle products, poetry, and handicrafts. With booth spaces provided free of charge, the initiative emphasised the sharing of ideas, creativity, and passions while celebrating the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit of the SMU community.

Singapore Management University (SMU) marked its 25th anniversary with a vibrant Patron’s Day celebration on 17 January 2025, bringing together more than 7,000 students, alumni, faculty, and staff on Campus Green. Centred around the eight-metre inflatable mascot SMOO SMOO, the event showcased the spirit and achievements of the SMU community through a diverse programme of performances, activities, and tributes. Highlights included performances by alumni hip-hop crew Eluminix, SMU Samba Masala, the Malay Language and Cultural Club, and special appearances by alumni Chantalle Ng and Joshua Lim. As evening fell, Benjamin Kheng and DJ Kiara energized the crowd, transforming the anniversary celebration into a memorable showcase of community pride and shared belonging. The festivities also reflected SMU’s commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and inclusivity. More than 40 SMU Makers presented their ventures, from sustainable fashion creations to student-led startups, while the Inter-Faculty Tug-of-War brought together participants from all seven schools in a spirited display of camaraderie, with the Yong Pung How School of Law emerging victorious. Sustainability initiatives such as Go Green with SMOO encouraged recycling and environmental awareness, while the SMU(ltiply) fundraising campaign enabled service staff to take part in the celebrations. As part of the university’s 25th anniversary milestone, Patron’s Day 2025 celebrated SMU’s journey of growth and impact, while looking ahead to its next chapter of innovation and contribution to Singapore and beyond.

- Friendly rivalry and school spirit took centre stage at the Inter-Faculty Games during SMU Patron’s Day 2026, as students from all seven SMU schools competed in a series of spirited contests at Campus Green. Among the day’s most anticipated events was the Tug-of-War competition, which returned as a crowd favourite and drew enthusiastic support from students, staff, alumni, and guests. The introduction of a cheerleading segment further energized the competition, adding colour and excitement to the festivities. After several closely contested rounds, the School of Economics (SOE) emerged as champions of the Tug-of-War. The victory reflected the team’s determination, resilience, and strong sense of school pride. The achievement was made especially memorable for the students with the presence of distinguished guests, including Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who joined the SMU community in celebrating the occasion.
