T-Junction at SMU Concourse bustling with energy as crowds of students thronged the Global Education Fair 2026
- Held on 28 January 2026 at the University’s basement concourse, SMU’s annual Study Abroad Fair was rebranded as the Global Education Fair (GE Fair). Among the Fair’s most anticipated highlights was the University’s International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP). Managed by the Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO), ISEP partners with over 230 universities across 46 countries, offering students the opportunity to study at leading institutions worldwide while immersing themselves in diverse cultural and academic environments. With representatives from more than 30 partner universities in attendance, the Fair drew strong participation from across the SMU community. The T-Junction was abuzz with activity as students engaged in lively conversations with university representatives, collected information materials, and explored pathways for their global journeys.
Industry partner offering grooming tips and product samples to students at the 2025 Careers Day
- Engaging students beyond the classroom, SMU Careers Day brought employability to life through hands-on experiences and industry partnerships. Organised annually by the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC) , the event showcases the Centre’s commitment to career coaching, employability training and job opportunities support. At the September 2025 Careers Day, event partner Metro Group complemented the learning experience by offering complimentary personal grooming tips and product samples, highlighting the importance of professional presence and self-confidence in the workplace. The interactive session as shown in the photo drew strong student participation, reinforcing the Career Centre’s mission to equip students with practical skills for career readiness.
IdeaX : A toolkit develop for innovation and problem solving since 2021
- The IdeaX Toolkit was developed by the SMU-X team in response to recurring challenges observed across multiple SMU-X classes and project presentations. Drawing from firsthand insights and classroom experience, the toolkit was designed to better support students throughout their project journey – from ideation to execution – by addressing common pain points and guiding them towards more effective and impactful outcomes. The toolkit comes in a deck of five coloured coded cards, addressing the concept of Themes, Disciplinary Knowledge, Analysis & Solution Frameworks, Problem-solving Road Map and Desired Learning Outcomes.

VinaCapital, one of Vietnam’s leading investment management companies, sponsored the SMU-X Overseas (SMU-XO) project of ECON248 Overseas Project Experience (Macroeconomics in Asia). Through projects, students gained first-hand experience in the fast-paced buy-side analyst role, identifying high-alpha projects to benefit various VinaCapital funds. They also deepened their knowledge of modern and sophisticated financial products such as SPACs and digital assets, understanding how these products have different characteristics under various macroeconomic and financial market conditions, especially in developing countries. As final deliverables to VinaCapital, students evaluated investment projects from different stakeholders’ perspectives and provided recommendations. They gained insights into the investment process and learned how to leverage market fluctuations to identify asset classes that could deliver positive investment returns. They also had the opportunity to interact with faculty and students at the Vietnam National University, network with aspiring start-up founders and SMU alumni based in Ho Chi Minh City. They also managed to squeeze in some time to soak in the sights and sounds of the city, and visit cultural sites like the Cu Chi Tunnel and Mekong River.

- A new Sustainable Futures track was launched on the 8th edition of the Global Summer Programme in 2023. With the new track, students now had the opportunity to learn about the rich cultural heritage, economic dynamism and diverse social landscapes of multifaceted Asia; underpinned by the crucial elements of sustainable development and protecting the environment. An interactive booth inviting students to spot resume mistakes a the 2025 SMU Careers Day
- SMU Careers Day is a student-centric initiative designed to support undergraduates in their internship and job search journey. The 2025 event is held at the T-junction. With no employers present, the event adopts a exploratory format focused on skills-building and self-review. The photo featured a booth manned by by SMU Career Champions, inviting students to identify five common mistakes in a sample résumé and propose improvements—an interactive exercise that encourages critical reflection on employability skills, with a small gift offered as a token of participation. This activity forms part of a wider series of interactive Careers Day booths, alongside Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with career coaches, information on overseas internship opportunities, CliftonStrengths Top 5 profiling, and Brands Bingo.

Preservation - Skewed Desire : a zine on display in the 25x25 exhibition at SMU de Suantio Gallery during the 2025 Arts Fest
- This is a pdf capture of the zine created by Arvin Tay for the 2025 Arts Fest 25x25 exhibition which contains a poetry inspired by Chua Ek Kay’s artwork "Wall Of History" (2006). "I wrote Preservation-Skewed Desire to be didactic and easy to understand, expecting that people coming to this exhibit will only read our works just once, so I hope they could get something out of this from just one read. I was looking at Chua Ek Kay’s Wall Of History (2006) and, in my head, trying to find meaning in all of its abstractness, then I caught myself over-obsessing with how my work would be perceived by you now (in the future). Then there was a lot contemplation about being an artist and making art, and eventually when my train of thought led to the painting itself, I thought about how the wildness of the painting and its untamed style manifested exactly what I needed to take away, the lesson of not being skewed by worries about the result and embracing a good amount of uncertainty. So I felt it was perfect that my piece could try to break down our desires for preservation and to also be a reminder to live in the moment. I wrote the last stanza first; it reads faster (more clauses per line) to get the exciting euphoric feeling of revelation across. Then I wrote the first 2 stanzas after as I painstakingly dug through my mind for the root causes of these desires. I hope you guys managed to take away something from this :3, hopefully it was an opportunity to know ourselves a little better and live life a little better" - Arvin Tay, Year 2, School of Computing and Information Systems
Introducing MAD the Musical
- This video features Mr Jimmy Ye, Director at the Office of Student Life and composer, Ms Melody Faith Ng, a second-year student from the Yong Pung How School of Law, and Mr George Chan, Director, as they introduce MAD, a musical production presented as part of the 2025 Arts Festival held at the Drama Centre Theatre. MAD The Musical follows the journey of a present-day SMU undergraduate whose world collides with the fascinating, storied past of the site where one of our schools now stands. ​ This original production is a playful and heartfelt blend of past and present, brought to life through the reimagining of pop hits by the likes of Taylor Swift, Green Day, and many others.​ Created in celebration of SMU's 25th anniversary, MAD is a rare collaboration between SMU and top industry professionals. The creative team includes Jo Tan for the original script concept, Jimmy Ye for original songs, George Chan as director, and Andy Cai as choreographer, making MAD is a truely special musical experience.​

- Campus Green came alive as Live, Laugh, Lor drew in thousands as part of the 2025 Singapore Night Festival and SMU Arts Fest. For the first time in Singapore’s history, all eight higher education institutions, including NUS, NTU, SUTD, SIT, SUSS, UAS, and SIM, shared a stage with SMU. Strategic lightings and spotlights elevated the ambiance for the audience. The event was held over four nights on 29 & 30 August and 5 & 6 September. The evenings were filled with dynamic showcases: a five-university street dance crew that coordinated rehearsals across WhatsApp threads and homes; joint a cappella renditions of beloved local songs; and cultural performances that highlighted Singapore’s diversity.
Singapore's karaoke culture brought to a high by student DJ from SMU Stereometa
- Live, Laugh, Lor unites all Singapore's institutions of higher education for the first time in a dynamic 4-night showcase with the Singapore Night Festival, celebrating the rhythms of contemporary Singaporean identity. The photo features Josiah Tan Zheng Keng, a year 2 student with School of Computing and Information Systems and a member of SMU Stereometa, lighting up the stage with a high-energy dance set that pays tribute to Singapore's KTV culture, inspired by nostalgic karaoke hits, weaving throwback anthems and well-loved crowd favourite songs. Stereometa, SMU’s only DJ (Disc‑Jockey) club, has grown into one of the most exciting tertiary DJ collectives in Singapore’s nightlife scene. Equipped with industry‑grade gear, the club pushes musical boundaries while providing structured training that shapes student members into confident, skilled DJs—empowering them to express themselves freely through any genre they love.
Spirited Indian dance fusion takes centre stage in RE:TURN showcase for SMU's Jubilee celebration
- Return of RE:TURN is a high energy dance production that explores the disappearing grammar of traditional Malay, Indian and Chinese dance finding its way to influence, evolve and turn dance genres like hip-hop into fresh and exciting possibilities. Featuring the largest dance club, this production celebrates SMU Eurhythmix (EMIX) marking its 25th anniversary alongside SMU25 and SG60. The highlight of RE:TURN features an Indian dance with spirited fusion of the disciplined exactitude of Bharatanatyam with the kinetic energy of Bollywood. Together with their choreographer Ms Iswarya Jayakumar (front in picture), the dancers in sapphire blue and gold, offered a richly expressive performance, uniting classical technique with modern dynamism through both movement and facial artistry
Inaugural Convocation
