Patron’s Day, held on 30 January 2026, brought together students, staff, alumni, partners, and members of the public for a vibrant celebration of community, creativity, and school spirit. Centred on the theme “A–Z: Infinite Possibilities,” the day featured a lively programme at Campus Green, including the SMU Makers showcase, the Inter-Faculty Tug-of-War competition, and an evening of performances. The festivities were preceded by a three-day campus roadshow from 26 to 28 January, which engaged the community through interactive games and activities inspired by the event theme. A longstanding SMU tradition since the University’s incorporation in 2000, Patron’s Day commemorates SMU’s incorporation and honours the Presidents of Singapore who have served as its Patron. A key highlight of the 2026 celebration was the attendance of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam in his role as SMU’s Patron for the second time. During his visit, he toured the event grounds, visited the SMU Makers showcase, interacted with student organisers, and witnessed the final rounds of the Inter-Faculty Tug-of-War. His presence underscored the significance of Patron’s Day as a celebration of student initiative, institutional leadership, and the collective spirit that continues to shape the SMU community.

- As part of the evening celebrations for SMU Patron’s Day 2026 on 30 January 2026, a dinner was held at SMU Hall in the Yong Pung How School of Law. Prior to the dinner, Professor Lily Kong, President of SMU, presented the University’s SMU 2030 Strategic Plan to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

A–Z: Infinite possibilities come alive at SMU Patron’s Day 2026
- On 30 January 2026, Campus Green was transformed into a vibrant hub of celebration as students, staff, alumni, and members of the public gathered for SMU Patron’s Day 2026. The lively afternoon flowed seamlessly into an evening of colour, music, and community spirit, featuring highlights such as the SMU Makers showcase, the Inter-Faculty Tug-of-War, and a series of performances under the stars. The festive atmosphere reflected the energy and creativity of the SMU community. The excitement began days earlier with a Patron’s Day roadshow held from 26 to 28 January, where participants enjoyed games and activities inspired by the theme, “A–Z: Infinite Possibilities.” As one of SMU’s longest-standing traditions since 2000, Patron’s Day commemorates the University’s incorporation and honours its Patrons, from President S R Nathan to current Patron President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. The 2026 celebration served as a powerful reminder that, just as 26 letters can form endless words, the SMU community continues to create limitless possibilities together. - As part of the evening celebrations for SMU Patron’s Day 2026 on 30 January 2026, a dinner was held at SMU Hall in the Yong Pung How School of Law. The event brought together university leaders, partners, alumni, and student representatives for an evening of reflection, recognition, and community. In his welcome address, SMU Chairman Mr Piyush Gupta spoke about the importance of a broad-based education in a changing world and shared how SMU is sharpening its focus on delivering impact through education and research. SMU President Professor Lily Kong followed by reaffirming the University’s commitment to nurturing graduates who are agile, adaptive and purpose driven. The programme also featured video presentations showcasing the impact stories of alumni, including community cohesion coordinator in the UK Shereen Aziz-Williams and Paralympian and multiple medallist Yip Pin Xiu, alongside performances by student groups SMU VOIX, SMU INDANCITY, and SMU Eurhythmix.
