    Professor Lily Kong, the newly appointed Provost, joins SMU from 1 September 2015
    The Singapore Management University (SMU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Lily Kong (江莉莉教授) as the University’s new Provost (教务长兼常务副校长).  Professor Kong, who is currently Vice Provost (Academic Personnel) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) where she also holds the Provost’s Chair Professorship, will join SMU from 1 September 2015.  At SMU, Professor Kong will hold the Lee Kong Chian Chair Professorship of Social Sciences (李光前社会科学讲座教授).

        The first Makerspace available to SMU community in SMU Labs
        In 2018, the first Makerspace supported by Prudential was made available to SMU community. It serves as a collaborative environment for students and the SMU community to create, learn, explore, share, and generate new ideas. Workshops and activites were organized for the community to learn how to use the 3D printing machines and various tools available in the Makerspace.

          During the opening of the Makerspace in SMU Labs in October 2018, a student showcased various objects created using 3D printing machines to Ms. Neetha Nair, Head of the Center of Excellence with Prudential. Supported by Prudential, the Makerspace serves as a collaborative environment for students and the SMU community to create, learn, explore, share, and generate new ideas using 3D printing and other tools available in the space.


            Career Champions of 2024
            Corinne Ong, Director, Career and Employability Services (front, 3rd from left) from the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC) with the Career Champions of 2024. The Career Champions Programme was initiated in January 2013, comprising student leaders trained by staff of DKHMCC to provide basic career coaching such as resume reviews, mock interviews, internship advice, to undergraduate students. Following its success, the programme was extended to Alumni in 2017.


              Career centre establishes overseas engagement team in 2016
              (From L to R) Ms Tara He, Ms Lynette Goh and Ms Joanna Tan formed the newly established team in 2016 from Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC) to engage and grow business relationships with overseas employers in selected markets, broadening the opportunities for students in their career journey.

                Associate Professor Gary Pan from the School of Accountancy (Right) received the inaugural SMU-X Excellent Teacher Award from SMU Provost Professor Lily Kong (Left) at the 2018 State of University Address. The award recognizes faculty who are dedicated to teaching SMU-X courses and collaborating with partners from the private, public, or social sectors to integrate experiential activities where students address real-world issues impacting communities and organizations. Prof Pan, along with Prof Venky Shankararaman from the School of Information Systems, bridges accounting and information Systems in the SMU-X Accounting Analytics Capstone, preparing students for future changes in the work landscape. Prof Pan was also acknowledged for being nurturing and supportive in guiding students through their learning progress.


                  SMU-X : Transforming Education for a VUCA World
                  A video highlighting SMU-X, an interdisciplinary and experiential learning framework that emphasizes project-based, real-world learning through collaboration with corporate, non-profit, and government organizations.


                    Establishment of the Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO), under the newly formed Academic Services and Operations (ASO) division
                    The cake-cutting ceremony celebrating the establishment of the Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO), a new member of the Academic Services and Operations (ASO) group. GEO plays a pivotal role in driving global exposure participations of our students through immersive and meaningful signature global education programs.                       Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Global Summer Programme
                      The Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO) celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Global Summer Programme on 23 June 2025, with a cake cutting ceremony at the Mochtar Riady Auditorium. The Global Summer Programme was started in 2015. It was suspended in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and resumed in 2021.

                            Student Guitar Ensemble

                                    Preserving Trees at City Campus
                                    When possible, Singapore Management University preserved the mature trees at the city campus construction site. Several trees were removed and re-planted after construction was completed, while others were conserved in their original location. In this photo taken on 28 July 2002, a crane lifts a tree from Bras Basah Park before construction begins.
