- The 2022 National Day Observance Ceremony marked one of SMU’s first large-scale community celebrations following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions. Staff with face masks gathered at campus green and enjoyed the opportunity to interact with Professor Lily Kong, SMU President, reflecting a renewed sense of connection, resilience, and togetherness within the university community.
Career Champions of 2024

The Career Champions Programme was initiated in January 2013, comprising student leaders trained by staff of DKHMCC to provide basic career coaching such as resume reviews, mock interviews, internship advice, to undergraduate students. Following its success, the programme was extended to Alumni in 2017.

- Associate Professor Gary Pan from the School of Accountancy (Right) received the inaugural SMU-X Excellent Teacher Award from SMU Provost Professor Lily Kong (Left) at the 2018 State of University Address. The award recognizes faculty who are dedicated to teaching SMU-X courses and collaborating with partners from the private, public, or social sectors to integrate experiential activities where students address real-world issues impacting communities and organizations. Prof Pan, along with Prof Venky Shankararaman from the School of Information Systems, bridges accounting and information Systems in the SMU-X Accounting Analytics Capstone, preparing students for future changes in the work landscape. Prof Pan was also acknowledged for being nurturing and supportive in guiding students through their learning progress.

Connecting Talents : building networks for early-career postgraduates May 2026
- Featuring student participants, staff, alumni, and invited guests attending the Connecting Talents (CT) for Early-Career Postgraduates event, held in the Quiet Area on Level 5 of the Li Ka Shing Library on 22 May 2026. Organised by the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC), the event reflected the centre’s commitment to supporting early-career professionals through meaningful connections and networking opportunities. The evening brought together nearly 70 SMU early-career postgraduate students and more than 30 alumni for an engaging programme of networking, career insights, and professional exchange. Participants also took part in the Career Discovery Bingo ice-breaker activity, designed to foster conversations and encourage new connections, with prizes awarded to the first 12 participants who completed the challenge. Through alumni experiences, professional networking, and meaningful conversations, the event highlighted the role of community, mentorship, and relationship-building in shaping the early career journeys of postgraduate students.

Cross-Cultural Studies
- On the occasion of his 90th birthday, Mr Choor Singh, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Singapore, made a donation to launch Singapore Management University's Centre for Cross-Cultural Studies (now known as the Wee Kim Wee Centre). The centre is to be a platform for research, discussion and teaching across political, geographical and cultural boundaries. Launch of LARC with CMU
- Singapore Management University (SMU) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have teamed up to establish the Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC). The Centre will develop new techniques to acquire data on consumer and social behavior and pioneer new approaches to analyse such data to develop applications and methods that will benefit consumers, businesses and society. The collaboration has received a S$26 million grant over five years from the National Research Foundation in Singapore. This fund is managed through the multi-agency Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO) hosted by Media Development Authority of Singapore. With SMU and CMU committed to cash and in-kind contributions, and third party funding, the S$60 million centre will establish Singapore as one of the world's pre-eminent centres of excellence in computational social science. The Living Analytics research programme is distinctive in that it combines the key technologies of Big Data (large scale data mining, statistical machine learning, and computational tools for the analysis of dynamic social networks) with analytics focused on consumer behavior and social media. - Held on 28 January 2026 at the University’s basement concourse, SMU’s annual Study Abroad Fair was rebranded as the Global Education Fair (GE Fair), reflecting the Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO) commitment to shaping globally agile, Asia-ready graduates with real world experience. Beyond semester long exchanges, GEO offers a diverse suite of flexible global programmes that support students’ academic, professional, and experiential learning goals. These include Short-Term Study Programmes (SSP), which provide structured overseas exposure in credit-bearing and non-credit formats, as well as international work opportunities such as the ASEAN Internship Programme (AIP), AIP+, and the Global Innovation Immersion (GII) Programme. Complementing these are SMU-X overseas project experiences and Overseas Study Missions, which integrate classroom learning with real world projects and industry focused study trips, enabling students to gain global and regional perspectives through immersive learning experiences.
