SMU establishes new scholarship with S$3 million gift from Mrs Margaret Chan-Lien
- SMU President, Professor Lily Kong (Right), presented a bouquet of flowers to Mrs Margaret Chan-Lien (Left), expressing her deep gratitude to the generous S$3 million endowed gift for the Margaret Chan-Lien International Exchange Scholarship programme, which will make available 20 new scholarships for students with financial challenges to pursue international student exchange programme. This landmark contribution reinforces the University’s commitment to enabling students with financial needs to broaden their worldview and deepen their global perspectives, and equipping them to thrive in an interconnected world. The opportunity will also expand their network and may open doors to new possibilities that will uplift their aspirations, future careers and families.

- iGlobal was organised by Lien Centre, from January to May 2010, in collaboration with United World College of South East Asia and the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre on a pilot project to demonstrate an alternative student-centred approach to service-learning in Community Involvement Projects. The project involved secondary school students from four local and two international schools.

SMU and Wharton Sign Five-Year Agreement
- Professor Tan Teck Meng, SMU Deputy President and Provost, and Professor Janice Bellace, Deputy Dean, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, sign a five-year collaboration agreement in the areas of curriculum and course design, faculty development, and student exchange. This agreement follows an earlier memorandum of understanding signed in January 1998. Ho Kwon Ping, Chairman SMU Executive Committee, is looking on. Agreement was signed on 2 February 1999 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
Agreement with Ritsumeikan University
- On the first day of classes, Singapore Management University launched its international exchange programme for students by signing a memorandum of understanding with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University from Oita Prefecture, Japan. - SMU Challenge is the university's annual community outreach event that provides students with opportunities to interact with beneficiaries on a personal level, understand underlying societal issues and needs, and gain deeper insights to support these beneficiaries throught their community service projects. The first SMU Challenge in 2008, organized by SMU Students' Association, is a cyclethon held in the Atrium of Plaza Singapura. Its goal was to pedal 50,000km collectively in 30 hours on 120 stationery bikes to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Singapore.
