President Tharman greets the Patron's Day 2026 student organising committee members at Campus Green
A hallmark of SMU since its incorporation in 2000, Patron’s Day celebrates the University’s founding and honours the Presidents who have served as its Patrons, from President S R Nathan to the current Patron, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. The 2026 theme, “A-Z: Infinite Possibilities,” reflected the idea that just as 26 letters can be combined to create limitless expressions, the diverse SMU community continues to generate new ideas, meaningful connections, and lasting impact.
One of the highlights of Patron’s Day 2026 was the visit of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, attending the event as SMU’s Patron. During his tour of the festivities, he visited the SMU Makers showcase, interacted with student organisers, and witnessed the final rounds of the Inter-Faculty Tug-of-War, underscoring the event’s role in bringing together student leadership, institutional stewardship, and community participation.
